PAHS Begins Service Learning Program at Beechwood School

On Friday, January 17, fifth graders at Beechwood School in the Belle Haven area of Menlo Park started a 4-week service learning program about the role of emotional support animals. Psychologist Julie Forbes, Ph.D. and her dog Kermit, a rescued Greyhound who accompanies Julie in her seminars about stress reduction, joined PAHS people Patty Hurley and Leonor Delgado, in introducing the program.

Patty and Leonor spoke about the special bond shared by humans and animals and the different kinds of animals who help us, and Julie elaborated on the scientific evidence that shows how interaction with emotional support and therapy animals helps people reduce and overcome stress and anxiety.

As for Kermit, he played a big role in creating a very harmonious atmosphere in the classroom. He's one cool doggie!
