PAHS Partners with Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue for Critter Club at Costano Elementary School

The June 3 Critter Club session at Costaño Elementary in East Palo Alto featured two guests from Mickaboo—Jonathan Kessler and his African Gray Parrot, Molly. Students' eyes were always on Molly, watching as Jonathan explained how pet birds, especially parrots, have very different reactions, than other, more familiar, pets such as cats and dogs. Molly was calm and unruffled and emitted a couple of happy whistles. Jonathan also discussed proper care for pet birds and the dangers of illegal trade in birds. We thank Mickaboo and Jonathan, and Molly—of course!—for contributing to our message of humane education.

The Palo Alto Humane Society is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, charitable, volunteer-supported organization. PAHS is one of the few humane societies nationwide with no animal shelter. Instead of managing animals inside a shelter, we work to keep animals out of the shelter through humane programs in intervention, advocacy, and education.
