OWL RESCUED, CARED FOR, AND SET FREE! Palo Alto Animal Control came to this owl’s rescue—he was taken care of, cleaned up, and returned to the wild. Kudos to our Palo Alto Animal Control Officer, Jeannette Washington! 🦉

Sticky situation! A barn owl was found recently at Stanford Shopping Center. Mall visitors, Everardo & Martin, heard a rustling of leaves up in the tree above them and spotted an owl. They weren’t sure it could fly because its wings seemed to be stuck to the leaves, so they called PAAC for help. Officer Washington brought the owl safely down from the tree using a net with a telescopic pole handle. The barn owl’s wings weren’t injured but had something sticky on them. Our feathered friend was transported to Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA. After several days in the care of wildlife experts, the unknown substance, possibly tree sap, was removed & they released the owl Friday night.
