First Place: Sympathy, by Claire Wu In Claire Wu’s enchanting tale, “Sympathy,” readers are taken on a heartfelt journey where empathy and understanding play a crucial role in bridging the gap between humans and animals. Through her poignant storytelling, Claire demonstrates the power of compassion and highlights the importance of our interconnectedness with the animal kingdom.
Second Place: Leto and Nebulara, by Chiara Rojas Chiara Rojas takes us on an extraordinary adventure in her second-place story, “Leto and Nebulara.” With vivid imagery and a touch of magic, Chiara paints a captivating picture of the profound connection between two remarkable animals. Third Place (tie): Deer Eyes, by Tanish Gaglani Tanish Gaglani’s heartfelt story, “Deer Eyes,” secured a well-deserved spot in the top three. Through Tanish’s evocative prose, readers witness a touching encounter between a troubled protagonist and a gentle deer. The story beautifully portrays the healing power of empathy and illustrates the deep emotional connection that can be forged between humans and animals.
Third Place (tie): Wink and Eyes of Rain, by Trinity Smith In Trinity Smith’s touching narrative, “Wink and Eyes of Rain,” we follow a young character’s journey of self-discovery and healing through the companionship of two endearing animals. Trinity’s heartfelt storytelling reminds us of the profound impact animals can have on our lives, offering solace, companionship, and unwavering love in times of need.
