YCS Action Team Learns About Animal Shelters

The YCS (Youth Community Service) Action Team, consisting of students from Jordan and JLS Middle Schools in Palo Alto participated in a special session of Kiddies 2 Kitties held the afternoon of May 3. Team members visited SVACA in Santa Clara where they learned about the functions and goals of animal shelters like SVACA that, because of high release rates, now qualify as no-kill.

In addition to reading aloud to the cats and socializing them, the students read to shelter dogs. Some of the students volunteered to work under supervision with Yogi, a very friendly pit bull mix up for adoption, in the shelter playroom (see the photo to the left).
