CURRENT CALIFORNIA LEGISLATION: ASSEMBLY BILL 702—The Pet Breeder Humane Care Act
Introduced by Assemblymember Miguel Santiago, 53rd District (Los Angeles area) with the sponsorship of Social Compassion In Legislation, this bill addresses the need, especially essential during Covid-19, when demand for puppies and kittens has skyrocketed, to ensure dogs and cats are bred in a safe, healthy and humane environment.
The bill will also raise awareness on the responsibilities of good pet guardianship and not relinquishing pets once people leave lock-down situations and return to the office. Says Assemblymember Santiago, “AB 702 provides the necessary safeguards to make sure pets are able to thrive once they are with their new owners.”
