Celebrate National Squirrel Day—January 21!

Squirrels are beneficial to our urban and suburban environments. They assist in beautification of our green areas and parks by planting seeds (even though they really mean to store nuts to find later on when they're hungry). These nuts/seeds eventually grow into trees, thereby promoting forest renewal. Squirrels are nature's accidental gardeners, playing an important role in our towns and cities.

If you find an injured squirrel or a baby who's fallen from his nest, and there's no mother to help him back to the nest, please call your nearest wildlife sanctuary. In Palo Alto, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills, contact Palo Alto Animal Control. In Mountain View, contact Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority. In San Mateo County, contact Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA.
