PAHS at South San Francisco Unified School District to Present Our Chidren's Book, "Saving Travis: A Rescue Story"

PAHS initiated a first set of educational sessions with preschoolers enrolled in programs at the South San Francisco Unified School District. These sessions, held Tuesday, January 15, featured Rhea Sampson, the author of the book, and the book's two canine heroes Shannon (Golden Retriever) and Travis (Rat Terrier mix).

Preschoolers listened to Rhea read her story, watched Rhea as she modeled the ways in which she cares for Shannon (including brushing Shannon's teeth—see the photograph), and sang along with Rhea and her guitar about taking good care of our pets and being kind to all animals.

The Palo Alto Humane Society is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, charitable, volunteer-supported organization. PAHS is one of the few humane societies nationwide with no animal shelter. Instead of managing animals inside a shelter, we work to keep animals out of the shelter through humane programs in intervention, advocacy, and education. For a century, our mission has been to alleviate the suffering of animals, increase public sensitivity to animal issues, and elevate the status of animals in our society.
