August 4–10: International Assistance Dog Week

PAHS joins all dog lovers this week to recognize and honor hardworking assistance dogs. PAHS partners with Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) in classroom and after-school visits to teach students the varied tasks service dogs perform to help their people and the ways in which these dogs are trained.

PAHS sends special thanks to the CCI people who joined us in our education program this year—Rich Hagan with his canine companion Toggle and Suzanne Attenborough, with her current puppy in training Ida and long-term resident Wendell.

The Palo Alto Humane Society is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, charitable, volunteer-supported organization. PAHS is one of the few humane societies nationwide with no animal shelter. Instead of managing animals inside a shelter, we work to keep animals out of the shelter through humane programs in intervention, advocacy, and education. For a century, our mission has been to alleviate the suffering of animals, increase public sensitivity to animal issues, and elevate the status of animals in our society.
