ATTENTION! SOUTH BAY (SAN JOSE) CAT RESCUERS AND OTHERS!
An approximately 3-4 month old kitten was recently picked up in Santa Clara still wearing a SJACC (San Jose Animal Care and Control) temporary ID collar. Upon investigation, the kitten was one of a group of 4 that were TNR'd together.
It is unknown if the other 3 kittens were also wearing collars, but if they were they are in danger. The collars do not come off easily, and do not stretch.
According to the shelter records, the kittens were originally released in the area around McKee Rd and N. Jackson St in San Jose. The recovered kitten was picked up about 5-1/2 miles away in Santa Clara, near Lafayette St. and Central Expressway. (See the map below.)
It is not known how the kitten managed to get to Santa Clara. But based on the fact that she did, and the distance, it's possible that the other kittens could be almost anywhere.
The ID collars are red or blue in color (based on sex), and about 3/4" wide. They will have the ID number on them. An example is shown below.
If you see any cats or kittens that appear to be wearing collars please contact the Cat Resource Center at admin@catcenter.org. Or, if you can get them yourself, you can cut the collars to remove them.
