We’re grateful for our partnership with Assembly Member Kevin Mullin who helped make possible one of our proudest #110Stories. Our long history of humane advocacy and activism in education reached a high point in the passage of Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 144—Public Schools: Character Education. This resolution, which highlights the teaching of humane education and kindness to animals as an integral component of character education, was passed unanimously by both the California State Assembly and Senate in fall 2016. The Palo Alto Humane Society is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, charitable, volunteer-supported organization. PAHS is one of the few humane societies nationwide with no animal shelter. Instead of managing animals inside a shelter, we work to keep animals out of the shelter through humane programs in intervention, advocacy, and education. For a century, our mission has been to alleviate the suffering of animals, increase public sensitivity to animal issues, and elevate the status of animals in our society.
