Another Pitbull in trouble! Please help PETER!

"I spent all my days, nights too, with a chain around my neck in a small backyard, all alone. Then, one day, suddenly, with a good jerk, the chain came loose and I bolted. Straight over the fence … to freedom! I was so happy! Next thing I knew, I was lying in the gutter with a terrible pain in my head. I tried to stand up, but my leg gave way and I fell over, with an even worse pain in my middle."

PETER was hit by a car. His "owner" took him to San Jose Animal Hospital, one of the wonderful veterinary clinics that Palo Alto Humane Society (PAHS) works with. They called us for financial help. The next day, PETER's owner decided to have his dog euthanized. When the vet declined, PETER was legally surrendered to the vet.

Luckily, PETER does not have brain or nerve damage, but he does have a badly fractured pelvis needing specialized surgical repair as soon as possible. The estimate for surgery ranges from $2,500 to $4,000. PAHS will pay if a foster or forever home or rescue group can be found to take him. Surgery is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 31.

PETER will have to limit his activity after surgery, staying in a crate and being helped to go outside for bathroom breaks. If you can foster him for a while, until a forever home or rescue group is found, please let us know (650-424-1901 or pahs@paloaltohumane.org). PETER will need to go back to his vet in SJ for post-surgery checkups too. Please pass the word. This is urgent! Thank you.
