“Adoptables Art” Animal Portraits Now on Display at SVACA (Santa Clara)
Fifth-grade art students and their teacher, Ms. Kogan, at Hillview Middle School in Menlo Park (https://district.mpcsd.org/Domain/11) partnered with SVACA (http://svaca.com/) and Palo Alto Humane Society in the Adoptables Art program. They visited cats and dogs for adoption at SVACA, helped socialize them, and photographed them. They later painted expressive portraits of these animals and in a short composition described how each animal felt at the shelter and wanted in a forever home.

The Palo Alto Humane Society is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, charitable, volunteer-supported organization. PAHS is one of the few humane societies nationwide with no animal shelter. Instead of managing animals inside a shelter, we work to keep animals out of the shelter through humane programs in intervention, advocacy, and education. For a century, our mission has been to alleviate the suffering of animals, increase public sensitivity to animal issues, and elevate the status of animals in our society.
