Abel (dog) and Midnight (kitten), shown below, were thrilled to meet the Daisy Scouts from Troop 61085 in Los Altos when they visited Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority (SVACA, http://svaca.com/) this past Saturday, November 18. The Scouts were accompanied by their troop leader, parent escorts, and enthusiastic siblings. Shelter staff Janet, Patrick, and Peter accompanied PAHS’ educator Leonor as the students toured the shelter, played with Abel and Midnight and several other kittens. To earn another petal for their “daisy,” the Scouts learned about how a shelter functions, the different kinds of jobs people do at the shelter, the special care shelter animals receive, and how to best help socialize shelter animals.

The Palo Alto Humane Society is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, charitable, volunteer-supported organization. PAHS is one of the few humane societies nationwide with no animal shelter. Instead of managing animals inside a shelter, we work to keep animals out of the shelter through humane programs in intervention, advocacy, and education.
