Featured Artist Erin Scott:
A painter since childhood and drawn to stories and the archetypes which embed them since adulthood, Erin has spent some time combining these interests with her lifelong resonance to animals and the deep truths which they reflect. Although there is always a message awaiting discovery in the various nocturne scenes, whimsy and humor just naturally seep through in style and nuance.
“Holistic is the way to see and the way to be: this, especially necessary to embrace as we move forward in today’s world of imbalance and systems’ collapse. Creative expression taps into archetypal stories and allows the emergence of holistic realities.”
This understanding came from years of educational and spiritual pursuits including a master’s degree in Holistic Science. From this knowing and from attending to a longtime interest in writing for children, a children's storybook vibrantly emerged called The Magical Kingdom: Gaia and the Adventure into the Great Yew. The book relays the magic of our web of life and clarifies the inherent sameness and connection we humans share with all of nature. We are part of nature, not above or outside of it. These messages, so necessary in forging a new, needed, sustainable - and re-souled - way of moving forward in the world, is a passionate pursuit.
Erin shares her time between PAHS, as Manager of Organizational Development and Gallery Curator, and a film project called Animate Earth for Stories4Change. More about her work can be seen at www.TheMagicalKingdom.com.
Animals are authentic; they are joyous. No wonder they are such a subject of study and creative expression for so many. They bring us back to center, back to nature. In a profound sense, the roots of our natural wisdom have been forgotten and replaced with an overly-differentiated, reductionist and mechanistic model of being human and being with the Earth, prevailing to guide our thoughts and actions for centuries. “Animals”, says Erin, “help remind us about our roots, about our original story, about the deep meaning of archetypes, and about that pure bliss of living in the flow of life.”
Featured Mosaic Artist My-Xuan Ho:
The initial inspiration for the mosaic shapes and colors was drawn from those on the Antoni Gaudi buildings. From that starting point inspiration continually evolves into the overall design and shape and its design, its colors, patterns and forms.
“For my art work, I select ceramic fragments from plates, cups or bowls with a high quality of chip resisting and to developing cracks. I also use varieties of materials such as marbles, seashells, glass, mirrors, rocks, beads, or whatever my vision of the finished product will convey both its beauty and the emotional value invested in it. I work on both indoor and outdoor pieces, from furniture to sculptures and other garden decorative pieces -- such as birdbaths, water fountains and sculptural objects. My mosaic inspiration is not limited to a specific range of objects. I am passionate about experimentation and new discoveries and venture into new art areas: I’m currently experimenting the use of my mosaic design over sculptures that I create.”
